On July 15, Steve Tuzeneu (pronounced “TOO-zen-noo”) started in his new position as our new General Manager / Chief Engineer
Steve brings over 40 years of diverse Christian radio station experience, from announcing to engineering to management. In fact, his career is coming full circle, because he worked for WIHS from 1985-1991, when the station was located on Main Street in downtown Middletown.
Steve’s broadcasting career began in 1973 when he worked for WRLB, a secular radio station in Long Branch, New Jersey. In 1977, while serving as a missionary in Puerto Rico, Steve was invited to be a local Christian radio announcer, which began his decades-long journey in Christian radio. Over the years, he has held staff positions at WLVX in Bloomfield, Connecticut; Blount Communications in Worcester, Massachusetts; KJRL /KNGM in Abilene, Kansas; WAY FM in Colorado Springs, Colorado; WRVM in Suring, Wisconsin; WDVL in Vineland, New Jersey; WTLV in Brick, New Jersey; WAVA/WWRC in Arlington, Virginia; WYCM in Charlton, Massachusetts; Townsquare Media in Grand Junction, Colorado; and most recently, Bible Broadcasting Network in Charlotte, North Carolina. At Blount Communications, he was the engineer and webmaster for seven stations.
Steve grew up in central New Jersey. His faith in Christ came alive at 11 years old, through the influence of evangelist Andrew Telford, who was speaking at his local church in Point Pleasant Beach. He went on to graduate from John Brown University with a B.S. in Broadcasting/Business Administration. Steve is a Certified Broadcast Technologist with the Society of Broadcast Engineers, holds an FCC General Class Radio Engineering License and an Extra Class Amateur Radio License.
Steve and his wife Lois are in the process of moving from Rock Hill, South Carolina to the Middletown area. While they visited Connecticut in June to go house-hunting, we organized a “meet and greet” with the WIHS staff, taking into account Covid-19 precautions.
GJ Gerard is now serving as a consultant until the end of September, to assist with the transition. In 1983, GJ became the Chief Engineer at WIHS, and in 1995 he replaced Al Thyberg to also serve as the General Manager. We thank him for his decades of service to WIHS. Thanks to his focused leadership, WIHS has never strayed from its Christ-centered core mission and vision.
