Bill Bright emphasized that civic engagement is a Christian duty—voting is one way believers live out their faith in society.
Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, believed that Christians should be active, responsible citizens. In his pamphlet Your 5 Duties as a Christian Citizen, he outlined how faith and civic responsibility go hand in hand. He wrote that Christians are called to:
- Pray for their leaders
- Be informed on issues
- Vote wisely and responsibly
- Speak out on moral and spiritual matters
- Run for office or support godly candidates
Bright saw voting not just as a right, but as a spiritual responsibility. He believed that when Christians neglect their civic duties, they risk allowing ungodly influences to shape society. He echoed the sentiment of Charles Finney, who said, “Politics are a part of religion in such a country as this, and Christians must do their duty to the country as part of their duty to God”.
Bright’s message was clear: faith isn’t passive. It calls us to action—not only in evangelism and discipleship, but also in shaping the moral compass of our communities through the ballot box. By voting, Christians help ensure that biblical values have a voice in public life.
So … get out there and exercise your right as an American citizen and as a believer in Jesus Christ and VOTE!!
